Year 8 Abstract art unit

Abstract art has a legitimate place in the art world, also known as non objective art. During this unit, Y8 works with a wide variety of media such as watercolors, acrylics, oil pastel, markers, clay, and even wooden blocks, that a friend of mine gave me hundreds of as a birthday gift.

Each sculpture is assembled using a glue gun, and then is placed on a cardboard base. Then, each sculpture is painted, and spraypainted to become glossy. The spray also acts as a protective layer.

This project took us 2 double lesson, and the students seemed to have genuine fun and even a state of flow with this one.

Each sculpture naturally looked completely different from one another, as the guidelines were technical, but not constrained.

Some sculptures feature pictures, some flat colors, some feature mixed colors, or very limited color palettes.

These sculptures actually inspired me a lot, and this is one of my works featuring them, this one is made with acrylic markers on hard paper.
