Fall-Time Frottage, Fingerprints, and Forest Fun!
Our recent environmental club activity was a big hit with the kids! We combined creativity with nature in a fun, hands-on way by creating beautiful leaf frottage art and fingerprinting bugs and insects found in our local forests. Not only was it a fun experience, but it also helped the children connect more deeply with the natural world around them. Leaf frottage is an art technique where you place a piece of paper over a leaf or textured surface, and then rub a crayon, pencil, or other soft material over it. The result is a detailed print that captures the veins and shapes of the leaf—making it look almost like a natural blueprint! The kids loved exploring different leaf shapes and colors, and they discovered just how unique each leaf is. After the frottage, we turned our attention to the fascinating world of bugs and insects. Using ink and finger paints, the children carefully made fingerprints of forest creatures—everything from ladybugs to butterflies and even ants. It was a wonderful way for them to appreciate the tiny creatures that live in our forests, many of which they might not have noticed before.
We had a blast, and it’s always amazing to see how art can bring children closer to the environment. We can’t wait for the next adventure! 🌿🐞
