EAL Program at EISB: Where Learning to Read is Play!

The EAL (English as an Additional Language) Program at EISB is designed to support students for whom English is not a first language. Through this program, students develop foundational language skills, allowing them to thrive in an English-speaking environment. One of the key areas of focus is building literacy, starting with alphabet letter sounds and early reading skills in a way that is both effective and enjoyable.

Learning alphabet letter sounds and taking the first steps in reading can be exciting, especially with an interactive reading program. With Year 1, 2, and 3 students, we’ve seen how engaging these activities make a real difference in their enthusiasm and progress. Interactive reading programs let kids learn in a fun, hands-on way, making use of vibrant visuals, sounds, and games that reinforce letter sounds and simple words. These activities are designed to spark curiosity and build confidence, allowing kids to move at their own pace. By mastering each sound and blending them into words, students build a solid reading foundation. They get excited to apply what they’ve learned, whether it’s reading long vowel sound words, CVC words, identifying sounds in pictures, or beginning to explore picture-word reading. This dynamic approach keeps students motivated and eager to read more, setting them up for long-term reading success!
