Year 2: Learning Body Parts with Fredy 🧌

Spread the love

During our most recent German unit with Year 2, we learned how to name different parts of the body while also connecting this knowledge with everything we had learned so far, numbers, colours, clothing, and adjectives such as small, big, fast, slow, short, and long.

As we described different body parts, we also paid attention to the differences that make each of us unique. The children created their own imaginary monsters and described their features, combining language learning with creativity.

Later, we worked together to create our very own class monster.

His name is Fredy. His mother comes from Slovakia, his father from Türkiye, and he was born in Germany. The students decided that Fredy is only six years old because he is a little smaller than they are. They enthusiastically described his hair, eyes, nose, and other body parts, while also imagining details about his personality and preferences. According to the students, Fredy loves pizza and fruit salad.

Our unit was not only about learning body parts, numbers, colours, and descriptions, but also about creating a character together, one that helps students remember what they have learned. Every day, Fredy watches over them from the hallway and greets them with his cheerful “Wie geht’s?” (“How are you?”).
