When Music, Friendship, and Learning Come Together

Spread the love

Last week, as a Slovak Language teacher in the PYP programme, I took our students from Year 2 to Year 6 to see the children’s musical DOHODA (The Agreement). From the very first minutes, it was clear that this would be much more than an ordinary theatre performance.

The musical tells the story of children trying to find their place in the world, cope with the expectations of others, and stay true to themselves. Themes such as teamwork, friendship, talent, and the fear of failure were presented in a way that our students could easily understand and relate to.

Throughout the performance, it was wonderful to watch the children’s reactions. They laughed, cheered for the characters, and became fully engaged in the story. What pleased me even more was that the musical sparked meaningful discussions in our lessons afterwards. Students shared their thoughts about the characters, reflected on the challenges they faced, and talked about the messages they had taken away from the performance.

As a teacher, I truly value experiences that combine entertainment with meaningful messages. DOHODA reminded us that everyone has unique strengths and that the best results are often achieved when we learn to work together.

It was an enjoyable and enriching experience that we will remember for a long time.
