AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU

During our visit to Kraków, we took an excursion to the Auschwitz concentration camp, a deeply moving experience that gave us a powerful insight into history. Located about an hour’s drive from the city, Auschwitz was the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp during World War II. It consisted of two main sections: Auschwitz I, the original camp, and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the much larger extermination site.

During the tour, we saw the preserved barracks, watchtowers, and the infamous gas chambers, along with exhibits displaying personal belongings of the victims, photographs, and historical documents. Walking through the camp, it was impossible not to feel the scale of the tragedy and the immense suffering that took place there.

Visiting Auschwitz reminded us why it is so important to remember history: to honor the victims, to learn from the past, and to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated. Remembering helps us understand the consequences of hatred, discrimination, and intolerance, and encourages us to build a more just and compassionate world.
