Easy Play dough Recipe for a Rainy Day

Crafting your own play dough is an excellent indoor activity for rainy days. It offers hours of entertainment and uses ingredients already in your pantry.


  • 2 cups (240 grams)plain flour
  • 1 cup (270 grams) salt
  • 1 tbs (15 ml) oil
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water
  •  food coloring (optional)


  1. Combine plain flour and salt.
  2. Add water, food coloring (optional) and oil. Mix until ingredients are combined.
  3. Knead Well
  4. If consistency is too wet or sticky, add a little plain flour


For easier clean up use plastic trays or cookie trays

Play dough can be kept in refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a month. 

Other ideas: To extend play dough play add straws, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, bottle caps or animals or other small toys as well as cookie cutters and a rolling pin or pizza roller
