So Long, Farewell, auf Wiedersehen, Adieu

(Bonus points to anyone who gets the musical reference!)  After four incredible, crazy, indescribable years here at EISB, it’s time for me to move on.  As my students will tell you, Vienna is my favorite place on earth, so when the opportunity came to live and teach there, I couldn’t pass it up.  I have been teaching overseas for 16 years, but Vienna has always been my endgame.

I came to Bratislava in August of 2019, not knowing entirely what to expect.  I certainly didn’t expect COVID, online teaching, being named MYP Coordinator, creating the Drama dept., the addition of a whole new school, or any of a dozen other things that happened.  As I’ve often said, however: I’m a Drama teacher, I can improvise.  So, I did… with the help of one of the best teaching teams I’ve ever worked with.  Together we got through not being able to have more than 5 students in a classroom, students online and in the room, students from two different programs in the same class, and the list goes on.

I won’t waste too much more of anyone’s time.  If you were there, you know.  I’ll just end with heartfelt thanks to my colleagues and a few last words to my students (just in case you weren’t listening the first 100 times I said it):

  • Ruhe, bitte!
  • If I were you, I would (insert advice here).
  • Notice how the “if” and the “would” are on opposite sides of the comma.
  • If it’s not yours, don’t touch it!
  • Put your name on your paper.
  • Where’s your bibliography?

All kidding aside, I am going to miss you all.
