A Message to EISB Football from Wes Chandler
Something pretty special arrived for EISB Football this week.
As we begin building our first team, we’ve been telling our players that nobody expects them to already be football players. Most are learning the game for the first time.
What matters is what they do next.
And this time, we thought they might like to hear that from someone who knows a little about football.
Wes Chandler knows a little about football.
The former University of Florida All-American became a first-round NFL draft pick, played 11 seasons in the NFL, was selected to four Pro Bowls and was named the NFL’s Wide Receiver of the Year in 1982. He is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Chargers Hall of Fame.
And now he has a message specifically for the young players beginning their football journey at EISB.
Not because we expect you to become Wes Chandler.
Not because the purpose of EISB Football is to produce NFL players.
Quite the opposite.
Our goal is to create an environment where you can discover how good you can become—as an athlete, teammate and person.
Football gives us a place to practice things that matter far beyond football: showing up, learning something difficult, responding to mistakes, accepting coaching, persevering when you’re tired, supporting teammates and continuing to work when improvement doesn’t happen immediately.
Wes reached a level in this game that very few people ever reach.
So when someone with that experience takes a few minutes to speak directly to a group of young players in Bratislava who are just getting started, we think it’s worth listening.
EISB Football players—this one is for you.
