Slovak Language Acquisition – Cooking Unit
Within the Slovak Language Acquisition unit on the topic of Cooking, students worked in line with the principles of the IB approach to language teaching and learning, which emphasizes communication, contextualized learning, and the authentic use of language.

The unit was designed to support the development of language competencies through real-life and meaningful situations. Students worked with thematic vocabulary related to cooking, including names of ingredients, kitchen utensils, and language structures needed to describe procedures.
As part of the learning process, students first selected a recipe they wanted to develop and present. They then wrote it in the Slovak language.

The final phase of the unit was an authentic, practical activity – preparing dishes based on their own recipes. During the cooking process, students actively used the Slovak language for communication and describing steps. In this way, they naturally reinforced their vocabulary and language structures in a real-life context.
