Year 5 Bringing Poetry to Our Kindergarten Community
As part of our ongoing poetry unit, our Year 5 students demonstrated meaningful student agency by initiating a beautiful act of service within our school community. Inspired by their learning, they independently proposed the idea of reading their favourite poems to our youngest kindergarten learners.

This initiative reflects key IB values, particularly communication, caring, and reflection. By sharing poetry aloud, students developed confidence in public speaking, strengthened their expressive language skills, and learned to adapt their tone and pace for a younger audience. At the same time, they demonstrated empathy and responsibility, recognizing the impact their actions can have on others.
The experience highlighted the power of authentic learning. Poetry moved beyond the classroom and became a tool for connection, creativity, and community building. Our Year 5 students were not only readers and writers, but also role models showing how student voice and action can positively influence the wider school environment.

This was a meaningful example of how learning, when driven by student initiative, can inspire both the speaker and the listener.
