The national stage of the Biology Olympiad in category B – P, which this year took place in Banska Bystrica, has ended. A student from our school, Alexanda, DP 1, winner of the regional stage, participated from the Bratislava region. Based on the results of her performance, Alexandra took 9th place among 13 participants and received the “Successful Solver” diploma, which also provides benefits for admission to medical or biological faculties in Slovakia.
To my question about how the Olympiad were held, which projects took prizes, Alexandra replied that “the evaluation criteria turned out to be different than last year. If last time a commission based at Comenius University, Bratislava, assessed the scientific nature, depth of research, the use of statistical tests such as Tukey’s test and Anova test, then this year, a commission based at the Matej Bel University assessed only the colorfulness of the projects and the number of photographs submitted by the contestants.”
What can we expect next year? What will be the criteria for the new commission?
Alexandra answered these questions confidently: “Whatever the criteria, I will participate again and win. We will find a middle ground between the scientific nature and the colorfulness of the project .” Great answer. We are proud of you, Alexandra, and we believe in you.
