Exploring Science: Year 5 Shares Non-Newtonian Fluid Fun with Preschoolers.
Our Year 5 students visited the preschool to present an exciting science experiment involving non-Newtonian fluids. It was a fantastic opportunity for our preschoolers to engage with scientific concepts in a fun and hands-on way.
Introducing Non-Newtonian Fluids
The Year 5 students introduced the preschoolers to non-Newtonian fluids, specifically focusing on a fascinating substance called Oobleck, made from cornstarch and water. They explained that unlike typical liquids, non-Newtonian fluids behave differently under stress. For example, Oobleck flows like a liquid when touched gently but acts like a solid when punched or squeezed.
Hands-On Exploration
After the demonstration, it was time for our preschoolers to experience the wonder of Oobleck firsthand. Each child had the opportunity to poke, punch, and squeeze the non-Newtonian fluid, observing its unique properties. The room was filled with laughter and excitement as the children discovered how the mixture transformed from liquid to solid and back again with their touch.
