THE POWER OF GREETINGS

HELLO, DOBRÝ DEŇ, GUTEN TAG….

Have you ever wondered why do people greet each other?

When we greet someone, we are acknowledging their presence and showing respect for their individuality. Most people do this automatically and barely notice they’re doing it. But failing to offer a greeting to someone you know can easily cause hurt feelings and misunderstandings – you are failing to acknowledge their existence in your presence.

Greetings set the tone for interactions and create a sense of belonging. By incorporating greetings into our daily routines, we create opportunities for meaningful connections. Whether it’s a handshake, a smile, or a simple wave, greetings allow us to express our emotions and connect with others on a deeper level.

Did you know? that the ritual of shaking hands dates at least back to ancient Egypt and Babylon, and possible further than recorded history shows. It was a gesture for men to demonstrate they were not carrying weapons to extend their open right hand. This might explain why women didn’t follow the custom until more recently. Today, a handshake represents both welcome and good faith, such as when a deal is sealed with a handshake.

I would like to encourage you all to greet all the people in our school…starting with your friends, teachers, kitchen staff, office staff, cleaners etc. I believe that even words such as: Hello or Dobry Den or How are you? can improve someone`s mood and as mentioned above it creates the opportunity for meaningful connections.
