High School Camp Trip 2026: Our Hikes

Spread the love

At the end of the second week of September, our High School students attended a Camp Trip to Veľká Fatra in Central Slovakia. And even though the facility and the program were great, our students still craved more. So we took them hiking!

On the first day, we followed the blue trail, which led us to where the local river begins. But since that was too small, we decided to go look for something bigger — and so we discovered what looked like a cave! And even though we later learned that it was actually just a sinkhole, it still looked amazing. We explored a little bit — just as far as we could be sure was safe — and made memories climbing up and down the hill, testing the acoustics, or just enjoying some time in the woods.

On the second day, we decided to try another trail, which finished right under the top of a mountain. The task was simple — follow the road until there is no more road. Then take a picture, and the first few students get points for their team. I thought we as teachers could keep up with them — oh, how wrong I was. Our High School students outran us easily. By the time we teachers arrived at the spot under the mountain, our students were already exploring another peak nearby. But then I led them to an overlook with brilliant views of the valley. And I hope that after such an adrenaline rush, they also got to experience the joyful peace on that hilltop.
