Year 11th students celebrated Pi Day

On March 14, Year 11th students took part in the celebration of Pi Day and Einstein’s birthday. The initiator and organizer of this event was our math teacher, Mr. Josh. The morning began with everyone coming to school receiving a symbolic cake in honor of the scientist’s birthday and attaching it to a poster. Teachers, students, and parents took part in this. This event gave a positive emotional impulse to the whole day.

During the day, students of grades 9-11 took part in intra-class competitions dedicated to the number Pi and Einstein’s biography: Kahoot, crossword, problem task, who will write more digits in the number Pi.

In Year 11, Adela became the winner! Mr. Josh awarded the student with a commemorative medal and thanked all the participants for their participation and will to win.

Anastasiia was awarded an additional medal. The student was able to correctly write 55 digits of the number Pai from memory!

I was wondering how she managed to do it, to remember such a huge number. Anastasia shared her method of memorization: through associations of numbers with objects or events. Here are some of her associations. 15 is one more than 14; my car at the gas station is filled with 92 gasoline; suddenly a 65 year old man came up to me; …. 26 – two sixes were thrown by LeBron James to a boa  and he told me – 43 – it’s time to start winning, the boa  smiled again from all – 32 teeth and said, well, I’m not a loser either, I’m from a cartoon – 38 – parrot. – 79 – seven ninths started moving again, towards – 50 – the bus. The boa throws – 28 – two eights and hits two sixes before driving away. – 84 – eight is divisible by four. My mother was born a year later than – 1971 – my father was born before that – 69 – years old. -… If you are interested in her entire text, you’d better meet Anastasiia in person or her brother Serhii from the Year 9th, who was also awarded a medal for EXCELLENT MEMORY!

The celebration of Pai Day had a success. I hope that the method used by Anastasia and her brother will be useful for many other students. A good memory is needed in every subject.
