Designing costumes and habitats: Fish

The final group in this project was the Fish group. Josh chose to create a shark costume as he is very interested in them, and Martin was fascinated by the puffer fish, which can change size when feeling threatened. For fabric, Josh chose a grey curtain, to which he added cardboard fins and a white strip of fabric on the stomach to replicate the countershading sharks have to help them disguise in the water. Martin cleverly chose a cowboy costume, as he liked the idea of the fringe around the edges of the costume mimicking the spikes that puffer fish have. The costume was already brown, so he added some extra cardboard spikes all over the costume, which he painted brown to match the fabric. Daniel joined the class at the end of our projects, so he chose to bring a shark costume from home so he could participate in the exhibition day.

For the habitat, the boys worked together to make an ocean scene, including seaweed and colorful pieces of coral. They added questions for students and parents to ask them about habitats, food chains, and adaptations of their animals. They did a great job!
