Barcelona Tips & Tricks

Spread the love

As some of you might know, except for being a teacher I am also a tour guide. Colleagues and friends usually ask me for recommendations, so I decided to write this blog:

Sagrada Familia – it is a must see, even if you do not like churches πŸ™‚ Book your tickets way ahead from the official site. (There are many overpriced resellers and scams out there)

It is best to buy a ticket that includes the entrance to the tower. If they do not have those anymore, buy a just the ticket to enter the church. Inside they usually have tickets available to visit the tower – you find the ticket booth next to the exit of the church grounds.

If you were not able to buy a ticket at all, there are masses you can attend for free, check their program. Be sure to arrive 15-30 minutes before the mass starts and wear clothes suitable for church (shoulders and knees should be covered).

Before you leave the basilica make sure you visit the underground of the church to learn about the history and architecture. There are also restrooms before you leave. Do not forget to return to Sagrada Familia after it gets dark to enjoy the illuminated facades of this magnificent work of art.

And not far from the basilica is a hidden gem – the largest Art Nouveau Hospital in the world Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau.

Parc GΓΌell is also a must. Book your tickets way ahead. From the official site.

If you want to see more of GaudΓ’s works I would recommend the dreamy Casa BatllΓ³ (book ahead) and PalauGΓΌell – tickets are usually available on site or day before online.

You can admire Casa MilΓ‘ aka Pedrera from the outside or refresh yourself in El Cafe de la Pedrera.

You can then check the Olympic Stadium, Arenas de Barcelona, Camp Nou etc.

Some hidden gems in the old town not to miss: Palau de la Musica Catalana, The Kiss Photomosaic, Ancient Roman Temple of Augustus,Β Diacon’s house.

Generally beware of pickpockets in crowded areas as well as the beach! It is better to leave your travel documents in your hotel and just take a card and a bit of cash with you. Do not interact with suspicious people and be mindful of your belongings.
