Year 10 Students Explore Social Media in German Podcast
In their last unit, titled “Always Online”, our Year 10 students focused on the topic of social media and the internet. This subject is naturally very close to their daily lives and highly relevant, as they are surrounded by modern technology every day.
Many English terms from the media world are easily adopted into German, often with only slight adaptations, which made learning new vocabulary more accessible and enjoyable. Building on this, the students took on the challenge of creating a short 5–6 minute podcast. In the podcast, they asked each other questions such as:
-
Which media do you use every day?
-
How long are you offline each day?
-
Could you survive a week without your phone?
-
When do you write the most messages?
-
Which media and technologies do you use at school?
-
What annoys you about social media?
-
Have you downloaded anything from the internet this week?
-
What do you like to stream?
Adam and Norbert handled this task exceptionally well, bringing humor and playful exaggeration to their German podcast. While there are occasionally a few grammatical mistakes, what is truly admirable is that they are not afraid to speak, improvise, use what they have learned, and engage in meaningful dialogue. 👍
After all, we don’t learn a language just to study it – we learn it to communicate and express our thoughts clearly.
