Carnival/Fasiagy
Fašiangy is the Slovak term for the carnival season that takes place between Three Kings’ Day (January 6) and Ash Wednesday. It is a festive period filled with music, dancing, feasting, and masquerade celebrations, similar to Mardi Gras or Carnival in other cultures.
Traditionally, Fašiangy marks the time before Lent, a period of fasting and reflection in Christian tradition. It is often celebrated with parades, costume parties, folk traditions, and rich foods like fried doughnuts (šišky) and pork feasts.
Students come dressed in Carnival costumes.
