Year 4 Students Master Percentages with Fun and Creativity!

In our recent math class, Year 4 students embarked on an exciting journey to understand percentages through a hands-on and creative activity. The lesson involved coloring a 60-square rectangle based on percentage instructions given by their partners. This interactive approach not only made learning fun but also helped demystify the challenging concept of percentages.

Each student paired up with a partner and received a blank rectangle divided into 60 squares. Armed with rulers and colored pencils, they calculated how many squares to color in each color according to the percentages their partner provided. For example, if a partner instructed to color 20% of the rectangle in blue, the student would calculate that 20% of 60 squares equals 12 squares.

The classroom buzzed with enthusiasm as students enjoyed the coloring aspect of the activity. They diligently measured and filled in the squares, and many even took it a step further by creating beautiful patterns with their colors. This artistic element added an extra layer of engagement, making the lesson both educational and enjoyable.

By the end of the activity, students had not only grasped the basic idea of percentages but also learned to apply their calculations in a practical, hands-on way. The combination of math and art proved to be a great introduction to this difficult concept, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the subject.

We are proud of our Year 4 students for their hard work and creativity. This lesson is just one example of how we strive to make learning both effective and enjoyable at our school.
