At EISB, we celebrate students who embrace challenges, pursue excellence, and demonstrate courage in the face of uncertainty.

Emilia Pishchulina (Year 10), competed at the 42nd Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships in Varna, Bulgaria, this week. In her first year competing in the Senior category, Emilia stepped onto one of the biggest stages in gymnastics alongside some of the sport’s most accomplished athletes—including Olympians and World Championship competitors.

What makes her achievement even more remarkable is that at just 15 years old, Emilia was the youngest competitor in the championship.

A Historic Beginning

The opening moments of any European Championship are unforgettable, and Emilia was entrusted with a unique honor. She was selected to start the entire competition, becoming the very first gymnast to perform as the championship officially began.

To open a continental championship requires not only technical skill, but exceptional composure and confidence. With thousands watching in the arena and many more following around the world, Emilia demonstrated the poise and determination that have become hallmarks of her character.  She did an incredible job setting the stage for what become one of the most competitive championships.

Competing With Europe’s Best

Emilia competed in two apparatus events:

For a first-year senior gymnast, simply qualifying and competing at the European Championships is a significant achievement. To do so while competing against athletes with years of senior international experience highlights the dedication and work Emilia has invested in her sport.

More Than Athletic Achievement

Behind every performance are countless hours of training, early mornings, sacrifices, and perseverance. Balancing elite-level sport with academic responsibilities requires exceptional time management, resilience, and commitment.

At EISB, we believe education is about developing the whole person. Emilia’s journey reflects many of the qualities we strive to nurture in our students:

  • Courage to step into unfamiliar situations.
  • Resilience to continue improving through challenges.
  • Discipline to pursue long-term goals.
  • Balance between academic and athletic commitments.
  • International-mindedness while representing her country on a European stage.

These qualities exemplify the spirit of EISB.

An Inspiration for Our Community

Emilia’s achievement is not only a personal milestone—it is an inspiration for younger students across our school. Her journey demonstrates that excellence is built through consistent effort, dedication, and a willingness to step beyond one’s comfort zone.

Whether in sport, academics, the arts, entrepreneurship, or service, great accomplishments begin with the decision to try.

We congratulate Emilia on this remarkable accomplishment and look forward to following her continued journey in the years ahead.

Well done.
