Beyond EISB – Sepanta

Sepanta graduated from EISB, as a valedictorian, in the class of 2025. This is a message from him:

I am a first-year civil engineering student at STU Bratislava, and in this short article, I would like to share what being prepared or unprepared for college is like.

My first-semester subjects include building materials, constructive geometry, environmental engineering, geology, history of architecture, and mathematics 1, which covers vectors, planes, matrices, calculus, and functions.

Mathematics 1 is no sweat for me, not only because of my natural aptitude for the subject, but mainly because my great high school mathematics teacher, Mr Godfred, helped me prepare for specific topics related to civil engineering. If it were not for Mr Godfred’s positivity in our classes and enthusiasm for teaching, I would not be doing as good in mathematics 1 as I am today.

I could have been equally well-prepared for building materials if I had retained more from high school design technology classes with my dear design teacher, Ms Merna. My building materials syllabus is essentially all the topics about material properties I studied in design technology. Moreover, I am deeply grateful to Ms Merna, who taught me throughout my years at EISB and supported my development since I was 10.

Other subjects aren’t hard for me, even though I had zero preparation for them in high school. This is because I consistently submit assignments on time and pay attention in classes. I would sincerely recommend that other students reading this article do the same if they want to get good grades and actually learn the stuff.

Next semester, I will be having physics added to the list of my college subjects, and I am sure that I will be as prepared as I am for mathematics 1 now, thanks to my dear physics teacher, Ms Vasquez. She never gave up on me and never stopped motivating me despite my lack of effort and discipline when it came to physics. Which is not a lie because I could have totally failed the IB just because of physics.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone at EISB who helped make me the person I am today.
