Teachers’ Day with a Twist: A Student Takes on the Challenge!

Teachers’ Day is a special occasion to appreciate the hard work and dedication of educators who shape our future. This year, our school decided to make it even more interesting by giving parents the opportunity to step into a teacher’s shoes for a day. However, to everyone’s surprise, only one person took on the challenge—not a parent, but the older brother of one of our students!

Meet Abbas, a fourth-year pharmacy student at Comenius University. He bravely volunteered to teach a Year 11 chemistry lesson, stepping into the classroom with a mix of excitement and nervousness. A quick meeting was held before the lesson to discuss the students’ previous knowledge and the topic he would cover. With a plan in mind and a bit of apprehension, he was ready to go!

As Abbas entered the classroom, he was warmly welcomed by the students. At first, there was a sense of nervousness on both sides—after all, it’s not every day that a university student steps in as a teacher! However, the initial hesitation quickly faded as Abbas got into the lesson. The students engaged well, and before long, they were eagerly coming up to the board to solve problems.

Abbas encouraged the class to ask questions, creating an interactive and engaging learning environment. He even challenged the students with some puzzling chemistry tasks, pushing them to think critically.

By the end of the lesson, both the students and their temporary teacher had gained something valuable from the experience. The students enjoyed a fresh teaching approach, while Abbas got a taste of the challenges and rewards of being a teacher.

This unique Teachers’ Day experience reminded us all of the hard work our teachers put in every day and showed that teaching is no easy task. A big thank you to Abbas for stepping up and making the day more memorable! Who knows? Maybe next year, more brave volunteers will follow in his footsteps!

Happy Teachers’ Day to all our amazing educators!
