Man’s Best Friend
Dogs have long been considered man’s best friend, their role in educational environments is proving to be far more significant than simply providing companionship. From improving mental health to boosting student engagement, the presence of dogs in schools is reshaping how we think about learning and well-being
The Pet Club is on again this year every Friday 3-4pm.
Dogs in schools have been proven to have a positive impact on students’ mental health. Schools are places where academic pressures, social anxieties, and emotional challenges are a part of daily life for many students. Dogs can help alleviate these pressures by providing a source of unconditional love and comfort.
Dogs can reduce stress and anxiety levels in humans. For students, spending time with a dog during school hours can offer a calming influence, especially in high-stress environments like exams or during moments of personal difficulty. Sandra was very involved in Halloweek this year! Students even let her try on their own costumes!!
For students with disabilities, such as those with autism or ADHD, dogs can offer both emotional support and assist with focus and social interaction. This therapeutic approach, often called “animal-assisted therapy,” has become an invaluable tool for mental health professionals working with children in schools.
I hope that schools continue to explore new ways to support student well-being and engagement, it seems that the role of dogs in education will only continue to grow.
