From Preschool to Year 1: Preparing for the Next Big Step

Spread the love

As the school year comes to an end, many of our preschool students are preparing for an exciting new adventure: moving on to Year 1. While this transition can bring a mix of excitement and nerves, it is also a wonderful opportunity for children to build on the skills and confidence they have developed during their preschool years.

Throughout preschool, children learn much more than letters and numbers. They develop independence, learn how to follow routines, build friendships, solve problems, and become confident members of a classroom community. These social and emotional skills provide a strong foundation for success in primary school.

To help prepare for the transition, we encourage children to take on age-appropriate responsibilities, such as managing their belongings, following instructions, and completing simple tasks independently. These everyday experiences help build confidence and resilience as they prepare for the increased independence of Year 1.

Parents can support this transition by talking positively about the move to primary school, encouraging independence at home, and celebrating their child’s growth and achievements.

While it can be hard to say goodbye to preschool, we are incredibly proud of how much our students have grown. We look forward to watching them take their next steps as curious, capable, and confident learners.

Congratulations to all of our graduating preschoolers—we know you will do amazing things in Year 1!
