Indian Culture Week 4.11 – 9.11

The week of November 4th we raised awareness about Indian Culture in our school. We are fortuante enough to have several students from India and they shared with us some Indian traditions and holidays..
Indian Activities at EISB
November the 7th was Diwila the Hindu festival of lights.  Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.  During the celebration, temples, homes, shops and office buildings are brightly illuminated.  In addition many people light off fireworks at night to add to the celebration of lights.Our school also took part in Rangoli.  Rangoli is an art form, originating from India, in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. The purpose of Rangoli is decoration, and it is thought to bring good luck.  Colorful Rangoli are made from dyes and are lit up at night outside peoples homes and businesses.The canteen also cooked Indian food for our community giving students a taste of Indian curry.
