Year 9 Chemistry in Action: Open House Showcase 🧪

During our Open House, on 1st of April, Year 9 students proudly presented their creative STEM projects based on freshly passed chemistry unit.

Their task was to design and build environments where key concepts—such as acids, bases, neutralisation, pH, and acid rain — came to life.

Students worked in groups representing different themes: agriculture, marine life, households, the human body, nature, and industry. Each project was part of a rotating circular platform, where groups were connected through a shared idea — e.g acid rain— showing how chemistry links all these environments together.

From soil quality in agriculture to ocean acidification in marine systems, and even impacts on human health and industry, students explored how these concepts are present in the real world.

Some keypoints can be found on their presentation

Over a week and a half, students experienced the full process: teamwork challenges, problem-solving, time management, small failures, and big successes.

It was a fun, engaging, and meaningful way to see chemistry beyond the classroom.

Now, year 9 will dive into physics unit which will also end up with a STEM project.

Good Luck and Enjoy!
