Who We Admire: Presentations in Slovak for Foreigners
In our Slovak class for foreigners, students had an interesting task – to prepare a short presentation about a person they admire. The goal of the activity was not only to practice speaking in Slovak but also to reflect on which qualities we value most in others.
Elsa chose to talk about her parents. In her presentation, she explained why they are such an important role model for her. She spoke about how they support her, how hard they work, and the life values they teach her. She especially highlighted their kindness, responsibility, and willingness to help others. Her presentation showed that inspiration can be found very close to us – in the people who support us every day.
Lukas chose a more unusual topic – a comic book character he admires. He explained what qualities this hero has and why he finds them inspiring. He focused on courage, perseverance, and the character’s constant desire to help others. This showed that even stories from comics can motivate people and teach important values.
For both students, presenting in front of the class was a challenge. They had to speak in a foreign language, explain their ideas, and answer classmates’ questions. By doing so, they showed courage by trying something new and stepping out of their comfort zone. At the same time, they developed their communication skills by trying to express their ideas clearly and understandably.
The activity was also interesting because it encouraged students to think about the values that are important to them. They listened to each other, learned to respect different opinions, and discovered what inspires their classmates.
These kinds of presentations help students not only improve their language skills but also build confidence, openness, and the ability to share their thoughts with others.
