Auschwitz Excursion
On December 2nd, 2025, our Year 11 & Year 12 students attended a guided excursion to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Oświęcim, Poland. It was part of the joint Krakow-Auschwitz excursion and an integral part of student education and formation, connected to both our History and Language & Literature classes. Now more than ever, with fewer survivors alive, who remember the atrocities of what a human being can do to another, we need to learn, acknowledge and remember the Holocaust as part of our own history. And the museum in Auschwitz offers a genuine experience in all the well-preserved content found there. With an English guide, we visited both the Auschwitz KL, where we walked the path that millions had walked, saw pictures of some of the first prisoners, including many who were citizens of Slovakia, saw their personal belongings, and much more. We then moved to the infamous Birkenau Camp, Auschwitz KL-II, in the open field in cold December air, witnessing the sheer scale of it all. Even though it was a grim sight and a chilling experience, we as educators believe this excursion is an exceptional experience for all students.
