Year 7 Slovak for Foreigners: Creating the Dom Snov (Dream House)

Our Year 7 Slovak for Foreigners students recently completed a creative and language-rich project called “Dom snov”—their very own dream house. Through drawing and designing their ideal homes, students practiced essential Slovak vocabulary in a fun and meaningful way.

As they sketched the layout of their houses, students learned how to name different rooms and pieces of furniture in Slovak. Each drawing became an opportunity to reinforce new words while imagining cozy bedrooms, colourful living rooms, and inventive spaces.

To deepen their language skills, students also described the furniture in their drawings using two adjectives, such as size and colour. Phrases like široká zelená sedačka (a wide green sofa) or malý modrý stôl (a small blue table) helped them build confidence in forming descriptive sentences.

The final artworks were not only creative and personal, but they also demonstrated how visual tasks can make vocabulary learning more memorable. The “Dom snov” project was a wonderful blend of art, imagination, and Slovak language practice—well done, Year 7!
