Year 10 Exploring African Literature
Year 10 students at EISB are currently undertaking a powerful thematic study on courage and cultural identity through the lens of African literature, focusing on Chinua Achebe’s canonical novel, Things Fall Apart. This text is an indispensable component of the English Language and Literature curriculum as it provides students with a nuanced understanding of pre-colonial Igbo society and the profound societal disintegration brought about by European colonization. Engaging with Achebe’s work allows students to critically analyze universal themes such as the clash between tradition and modernity, individual fate, and the true nature of heroism fostering both advanced literary interpretation skills and a vital sense of global historical empathy. It remains a cornerstone for developing informed, culturally aware citizens.
