A Special Visit from Colorado: Learning About Life in a General Store
Today, we were lucky to have very special guests in our classroom—Jim and Charlene, grandparents of one of our students, all the way from Colorado! They came to talk to us about their life running a general store in a rural area, and the students were full of curiosity and excitement.
Jim and Charlene shared fascinating insights into how their store operates, from keeping the shelves stocked to serving their close-knit community. One of the highlights was learning about sausage making—something most of us had never thought about in such detail! The students asked thoughtful questions and learned why general stores are so important in rural areas where people may not have easy access to larger supermarkets.
The conversation also touched on job satisfaction and what it means to do work that helps others. It was inspiring to hear about their experiences and how meaningful it is to serve a community in such a hands-on way.
A huge thank you to Jim and Charlene for taking the time to visit us and share their knowledge. What a great connection to our current unit on community roles and responsibilities!
