During the “Remarkable Civilizations” unit, students had the chance to dive into the world of ancient Greece by learning about its language and alphabet. The Greek alphabet is one of the oldest writing systems still in use today, and many of its letters look familiar because they have influenced modern languages. This lesson helped students see how language connects history to the present.
We were lucky to have Ms. Alkistis, our school expert, lead a special session. She guided students through the pronunciation of Greek letters, taught them how to write them, and showed how many Greek words are part of everyday language. From math and science terms to words in medicine and philosophy, students discovered how much Greek has shaped modern communication.
It was a valuable lesson, and both students and Ms. Alkistis enjoyed the experience. Learning a new alphabet is not just about letters; it’s about understanding culture, history, and connections across time.
A big thank you to Ms. Alkistis for making this lesson both fun and memorable!
