Mindfulness Exercise in Drama Lesson

Year 11 drama students participated in a mindfulness exercise centered around a raisin, designed to help them focus on the present moment and leave behind distractions. Step by step, they were guided through different stages of experiencing the raisin. With the eyes closed, first, they explored its texture, noticing the surface through touch. Then, they focused on its scent, reflecting on any memories or emotions evoked by the smell. Next, they listened closely, gently squeezing the raisin to detect any subtle sounds it might produce. Finally, they ate the raisin, savoring the experience fully and immersing themselves in the act of present being.

This exercise encouraged the students to connect deeply with their senses and embrace the “here and now.”

Feel free to try it yourself and leave behind the stresses of the outside world for a moment of mindfulness.
