The Power of Water
On Friday 11th October 2024, MYP4 students accompanied by two teachers, headed to Gabčíkovo to visit the hydroelectric power plant and the Dunajské Luhy nature area.
After watching an informative video in the visitor centre of the dam, students were taken below with protective hard helmets to view the control room and the main hall with the 8 impressive Kaplan turbines, which have been supplying electricity to approximately 8% of the Slovakian electricity grid since 1992.
Later on, making the most of the sunny weather, the students enjoyed a short walk through beautiful woodlands to the fords and waterfalls, after a short break at the Café Kompa, overlooking the old Danube and the Hungarian riverside.
