Dog Shelter Trip

As the Pet Club is continuing sucessfully forward, we have been meeting every Friday for two years now, I have again organized the trip to the Dog Shelter Sloboda Zvierat in Karlova Ves. Primary students from Years 1-6 who are in Pet Club came together and instead of walking my dog Sandra on Friday afternoons, we went to walk other, less lucky dogs living most of the times in their kennels.

You can come to walk dogs there on any day. You can walk daily from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Adults need “Venciarsky preukaz”, you can get it on the spot for 5 euros and you keep it for future visits. There are around 2500 dogs, more than 2000 dogs are usually being succesfully adopted but the rest stay in the shelter for several weeks or months.

This time we got four dogs, because we were four adults, Ms Rachel (Year 3 class teacher) joined us and both Romanko s (Year 5 student) parents. The forest right next to the shelter is beautiful and despite of a bit rainy weather, it protected us from getting wet underneath its big branches and numerous green leaves. Moreover the air there was wonderfull. Kids had a healthy walk and dogs were mostly calm and enjoying the walk, sniffing around. However one, the black one, was barking quite fiercefully at other passing dogs, so Romanko s Dad was of a good help.

We also donated some money to this shelter. Romanko had a Birthday party and there was a voluntary amount of money to be paid that would go to support the shelter. Also Mr.Jim (Year 5 class teacher) with his students collect and kept some money from selling a “classmade” lemonade at the Mayfair Day.
