Engaging Young Minds
As the school year came to a close, I was eager to find creative and effective ways to engage my students. With exams behind us, I wanted to maintain the enthusiasm and curiosity of my MYP1 and MYP2 Science classes. Inspired by the idea of role reversal, I decided to put my students in the teacherโs seat. This experiment turned out to be a resounding success, offering numerous benefits that extended beyond the traditional classroom experience.

Empowering Students Through Teaching
From day one, I noticed that giving students the opportunity to teach their peers transformed the classroom dynamic. This approach allowed them to take ownership of their learning, presenting topics they had studied throughout the year in innovative and personal ways.
Building Confidence and Public Speaking Skills
One of the most remarkable outcomes of this exercise was the boost in confidence it provided. Students who were initially reserved, blossomed when given the chance to lead. Explaining scientific concepts to their peers required them to articulate their thoughts clearly and confidently, significantly enhancing their public speaking skills.
It was a joy to watch students grow more comfortable in front of the class, mastering the art of communication. This skill is invaluable, not just in academics but in all areas of life, and it was rewarding to see my students begin to appreciate their own potential.
Fostering a Collaborative and Supportive Environment
The activity also fostered a sense of community and collaboration within the classroom. Students were quick to support one another, offering acclaim, encouragement, and constructive feedback. This positive environment reinforced the idea that learning is a collective journey.
A New Teacher’s Perspective
As a new member of the EISB community, this experience was particularly meaningful. It allowed me to see firsthand the incredible potential of my students and the supportive spirit of our classroom. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace new challenges have been truly inspiring.
To all my MYP1 and MYP2 students: thank you for your hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm. You have made my first year at EISB an unforgettable one, and I am excited to see what we can achieve together in the future!
