CAS Activity Experiences 2023/2024

The DP1 students were involved in many experiences throughout this year for CAS. Here are some highlights of their Activity part of their CAS:

Alexandra :

I do many different sports and activities outside of school. These activities mainly include: horse riding, wakeboarding and running. As I frequently participate in many different sports, I thought that it would be a good idea for me to include them and talk about them in my studies and join CAS obligations with activities which I enjoy and want to improve in. I have been doing horse riding since I was 4 years old until 11, when I had a short break and continued 3 years later, when I was 14. During the first half year of being DP 1 and doing CAS I had successfully completed my horse riding license, and now I can officially participate in competitions. I have also succeeded personally in running. Throughout my whole life I was very active but running was not suited for me, as I was not able to breathe correctly to run a long distance without taking a break. Last year I was able to run 8km with a great time as well as pace, which may not seem a lot for others but years before I could not imagine to run 2 km without taking a short break. I have also improved in my wakeboarding skills while learning new tricks such as: edging, surface 180 and this year I am planning to jump my first obstacle. By all this I can conclude that CAS has not only helped me to improve as a person and to help others but also to keep in track my skills and improvements.

Sophia :

For my activity I am doing ballroom dance, both standard and Latin. I have been doing it for 8 years consistently. At first it was not my choice to do it but I am grateful that I got pushed into it because I have not regretted it since. I truly enjoy dancing both styles but a little more Latin because I feel like I can be more free. The hardest part of the sport for girls is finding a partner that takes it seriously and is motivated. My goal from the start was to be the best and keep getting to higher categories and it has not changed.

Kerim:

I chose football as my CAS activity because it is a sport that not only challenges me physically but  also fosters essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and strategic thinking. Playing  football provides a fantastic outlet for stress relief and helps me maintain a healthy and active  lifestyle. On the field, I learn to communicate effectively with my teammates, develop leadership  qualities, and understand the importance of cooperation and trust. Moreover, football teaches  resilience and perseverance, as every match offers new challenges and opportunities to improve.  This sport brings together diverse individuals, creating a sense of community and camaraderie  that extends beyond the game. Overall, football is a passion that enriches my personal growth  and social interactions, making it an ideal CAS activity.

Stephany:

One CAS activity that I did as an action experience was getting ski lessons. I started getting ski lessons because I went on a ski vacation with my family. When I was younger I learned how to ski for some time, but because I didn’t do it for a very long time I forgot how to ski. So once I went on this vacation I started taking around 4 lessons so I could relearn the basics of skiing and how to use the skis in a general way, this was therefore my main goal for relearning it as well as to see how I would find it go.

Ella:

For my activity, I usually go to the gym after school and I do ballroom dancing. I have been going to the gym for about 2 years now and I have been dancing for 10 years. Sometimes after school, I  walk the shelter dogs because it brings me peace and joy. I chose these activities because I enjoy doing them and they fill my free time. My parents brought me to dance, for which I am very grateful. The joy that is in me when I win a competition is the best. I took up dog walking as a hobby after school because I love dogs and it makes me feel happy when I can help them. I’ve brought them treats, food, and toys many times.

Sepanta:

I’ve been boxing since before the summer of last year and I believe that it’s crucial to participate in some form of martial arts as it fosters cooperative skills, defense skills and overall endurance. Being able to fight properly is an essential skill, and I highly recommend it. Other than boxing I have also been weightlifting at my gym and increasing my muscle mass and strength.

Rebeka:

My activities I do for CAS are boxing and Thai boxing. I do it because I enjoy it and it gives me an opportunity to be able to relieve stress. It is an emotional outlet and also an escape from reality. I am doing this sport from January and I started doing it after rock climbing which I did for 8 years and aerial acrobatics which I did for 3.

Denis:

I’ve been going go-karting since I was little, and racing is a passion for me all the way from karts to simulator racing and watching formula 1. I was doing go-karting semi-professionally for a while and now I am continuing it as a hobby, my simulator training is helping me improve my skill. I don’t typically race karts in simulators as there is a limited amount of good simulators for karting so I typically resort to playing formula 1 cars and other open wheeler race cars. However racing is racing and skill and experience from one racing car translates to another so it is still an effective way to improve my abilities. Another thing I train in simulators is awareness of other vehicles on the track to make better and safer overtakes. I apply all this improvement to the karting track every few weeks while I track my lap time and track sectors progress on graphs.
