Tasting España: Cooking Spanish Dishes in EISB Masterclasses

At EISB, we are committed to providing a holistic education for the entire educational community. To this end, we are offering a series of masterclasses for parents. One of our standout masterclasses is Spanish Language Acquisition. At the beginning of the current school year in September, we launched this series of informational sessions aimed at parents interested in understanding how their children effectively acquire the Spanish language.

Learning a language is not limited to grammatical rules or phonetics; it goes beyond that. Understanding the culture, gastronomy, or mindset of native speakers of the language is essential to fully mastering it. That’s why, as part of our masterclass, we have had the practical experience of a Spanish cooking class.

During this week, we held a special Spanish cooking class where participants had the opportunity to prepare a variety of typical Spanish dishes. From traditional torrijas to refreshing natillas with cookies, passing through the flavorful gazpacho and the perfect combination of bread with tomato, cheese, and ham, each recipe was a window into the rich Spanish culinary culture. Afterwards, participants explained the preparation process and the ingredients used to the rest of the attendees. Finally, we enjoyed the fantastic recipes that were cooked while practicing Spanish.

Spanish Students Y5 Visit the Masterclass
After the preparation, the activity concluded with a visit from Spanish students in Year 5, who are studying topics related to food. During this visit, the students asked each person who cooked a recipe about the ingredients used in each dish, using the question: “What ingredients does it have?” This interaction provided an invaluable opportunity to practice the language in a real and meaningful context, further strengthening Spanish language learning. The students took notes on each of the recipes, an activity that will continue to build towards their final unit project, integrating language learning with other aspects of the curriculum.

Thank you for being part of this wonderful educational community! We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the families who have been involved in this activity for their participation and commitment.
