The Importance of Using Visuals in Teaching EAL
Incorporating visuals into EAL teaching for MYP students can significantly enhance the learning experience. Visual elements, such as flashcards, puzzles, colourful pictures and videos, can help students comprehend complex English concepts better, they promote cultural sensitivity and improve information retention. Research has shown that we remember visual information better than text. Integrating these aids into language lessons enable us to retain new vocabulary and grammar rules more effectively. Not to mention the important fact: they can be fun! My MYP 1 students put this vocabulary puzzle together in less than 3 minutes. I was told to bring something much more difficult next time. I am up for the challenge!
