Students from Y 10-13 studying biology and SEHS participated in the Open Day

An Open Day was held on Friday. Most students participated in the presentation of their projects. Below you can read the feedback received from the students.

Emmy (Biology, Y10): The Open Day was a great event for me. Lots of people came to our station and said it was a fantastic game. The hardest part for me was creating the posters, specifically the facts about the staff that you can see through the microscope.

Martin (Biology, Y11): I think I did a great job on the Open Day presentation. It was two Kahoot! games about magnification, and everyone had a great time.

Elly (Bio Y10): The Open Day was very good. Many people came to our workshop and played our game. We received only positive feedback. We were able to answer all of the participants’ questions. We explained everything step by step. Participants were rewarded with sweets.

Adam (Bio Y10): I really enjoyed the Open Day. It was so much fun showing other people, children, parents, and teachers, what we were learning in school. I explained how magnification works and what it’s used for, and they played one or both Kahoot! games. I was impressed with what they learned about it. There were some things I would change or add. I would make more posters and explain things more clearly. I saw a lot of interesting presentations at the Open Day and learned a lot. I think the Open Day was very interesting because it covered a wide range of topics.

Alexandra (Y12, SEHS): I prepared by learning how to calculate BMI and what it is, so I now understand it better. I was nervous before, but I felt more confident during the Open day.

Alfie (Y12, SEHS): I studied BMI, learning its strengths and weaknesses. Overall, it’s inaccurate. I felt pretty comfortable at the Open Day, but sometimes it was a little awkward telling younger children whether they were overweight or skinny.

Abigel (Y 13, SEHS): In our SEHS class, we decided to do a project where we measured blood pressure using an electric and manual sphygmomanometer. This generated a lot of interest, and many people came back to check their readings multiple times. I think the project was successful, as many people were tested with both types of devices and were generally healthy. I explained the difference between systolic and diastolic pressure, outlined expected healthy values, and explained how the manual works.

Our students, under the guidance of our teachers, demonstrated interesting projects and good knowledge. I agree with our students. The Open Day was a great success!
