The Friendship Vase – First Day of School Activity
On the very first day back at school after the summer holidays, I wanted to create an activity that would help Year 5 reconnect, work together, and start the year with a positive spirit. To do this, I brought in a large vase — which became our Friendship Vase.
Each student was invited to decorate and paint a part of the vase. Some added bright colors, others painted small symbols. Together, all these different contributions turned the vase into something truly special — a piece of art that belongs to all of us.

The idea behind the Friendship Vase is simple: just like the vase, our class is made stronger and more beautiful when everyone adds their own unique part. It will stay in our classroom throughout the school year as a reminder of teamwork, creativity, and the importance of supporting one another.
Starting the year with this activity was a wonderful way to celebrate being back together after the holidays, and I’m excited to see how this spirit of friendship will grow throughout the year.
