History is being taught through video games

Teaching history through video games has become an increasingly popular and effective method, leveraging their engaging and interactive nature to make historical learning more immersive and impactful. Video games create detailed, immersive worlds that transport players to different historical periods. Games like the “Assassin’s Creed” series, the “Total War” series, and “Civilization” allow players to experience historical settings firsthand, walking through ancient cities or building empires from scratch. These experiences can give a sense of what life might have been like in different eras.

A prime example of the historical accuracy of some games is their use in the reconstruction of Notre-Dame Cathedral. After Notre-Dame suffered significant damage due to a fire in April 2019, the detailed digital model of the cathedral from the game “Assassin’s Creed Unity” emerged as a valuable resource for the restoration efforts.
