Scenescapes
As part of a brand-new Drama unit called Drama from a Stimulus, Students in MYP3 were asked to create a “scenescape.” As this was something very new, it was counted as a formative assessment. Students were graded on how well they formed and explored their ideas and how they used appropriate Drama techniques in the performance.
Here are the instructions they were given.
Read all the instructions carefully and be sure to ask if anything is unclear.

Aim: To create a multi-sensory performance based on the sights and sounds of the city.
Task: In your group, think of all the sounds, words, pictures, etc., that can represent “the city.” Create a sight-and-sound presentation of 3-5 minutes. You can include any combination of the following:
- Sounds/sound effects
- Music
- Spoken word
- Pictures
Everyone in your group must participate, and you must include live performance in some way (movement, spoken word, etc.), but you can prerecord or film parts of your performance.
Things to Think About:
- What do you want your audience to think and feel? How will you accomplish that?
- How will you combine prerecorded pieces with live action?
- How will you arrange everything for the greatest impact or effect?
- Stagecraft: how will you start and end your performance?
- Stagecraft: how will you operate the technology?
