AP Exams Are Here!

Maybe you’ve noticed that the school is a little quieter than usual on the 3rd floor these days… that’s because examinations are going on! The IB DP2 students are having theirs and then the Advanced Placement (AP) students are having theirs too!

“The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school” (Collegeboard.org). Students usually take these exams in May, this year they’re being held from the 1st-12th of May. They’re rigorous exams that can give college credit to those students who pass them (at least a 3 on a 1-5 scale, 5 being the highest). Several juniors and seniors (and even a sophomore!) are sitting for over 3 hours per exam this and next week in the many subjects they offer.

Passing these exams give students a head start in college, especially in the USA and universities worldwide recognise them as higher-level standardised tests.

“Research consistently shows that AP students are better prepared for college than students who don’t take AP, regardless of their exam score. They’re more likely to enroll and stay in college, do well in their classes, and graduate in four years” (Collegeboard.org).

We wish them the best of luck, and please keep quiet! (I think they might be a little stressed!)
