Year 7 – Closing Our Biology Unit with a Hands-On Experiment

Last week, our Year 7 Science students reached an exciting milestone as we wrapped up our Biology unit. Rather than ending with a textbook review, we chose to close the unit with a magnificent hands-on experiment: testing leaves for starch.

Despite the challenging weather conditions with snow falling and freezing temperatures outside nature still surprised us. Some leaves were still alive, and thanks to them, our experiment could go ahead successfully. This in itself became a valuable learning moment, showing students how resilient living organisms can be, even in difficult conditions.

During the experiment, students applied their knowledge of photosynthesis in a practical and memorable way. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were evident throughout the lesson, from carefully preparing the leaves to eagerly observing the final results. Seeing theory come to life in the lab sparked great discussions.

Well done to our Year 7 scientists for their hard work and fantastic attitude, we are already looking forward to the next unit!
