Celebrating Culture at EISB: Meet Tim Frere, Culture Weeks Coordinator

Hello EISB community! My name is Tim Frere, and I’m excited to introduce myself not only as an Individuals and Societies teacher for years 11 to 13, but also as your Culture Weeks Coordinator. Beyond the classroom, I lead our Model United Nations program and would love to see more students get involved.  I believe there is nothing like the energy and excitement of debating global issues and stepping into the shoes of world leaders!

My journey in education has taken me around the world, from the United States (Texas to be exact) to Morocco, Mongolia, and now here in beautiful Slovakia. Along the way, I’ve also coached American football and soccer, experiences that taught me the power of teamwork, resilience, and community. Teaching and coaching have given me the privilege of learning from students in so many different cultures, which has only deepened my passion for celebrating diversity.

Culture Weeks are a highlight of our school year, and I feel lucky to help bring them to life. These special weeks are all about recognizing and honoring the rich tapestry of cultures within our school community, often centered around meaningful cultural holidays. We aim to create opportunities for cultural exchange by inviting community members to share their traditions and giving student groups a chance to host events that showcase their heritage. It’s a wonderful way to learn, connect, and celebrate what makes each of us unique.

Outside of school, I share my life with my incredible wife, who serves as our school counselor, and our five children, two of whom are students here at EISB, while our older daughters are pursuing their studies in the United States. I’m an avid traveler and always looking for opportunities to explore new places, meet new people, and broaden my perspective, something I hope to bring into the classroom and our cultural events.

If you are interested in sharing your culture or celebrating a tradition with our students, I warmly invite you to reach out to me. We would love to include your story in our upcoming Culture Weeks and give our students the chance to experience the richness of our global community firsthand.

I look forward to connecting with students, parents, and colleagues alike during Culture Weeks and beyond.
