The First Last Day of School: Year 13’s Journey Begins
September 1st marked a truly special milestone for our Year 13 students—their very first last day of school. It was a day filled with excitement, nerves, joy, and reflection as they stepped into their final year of high school. You could feel the mix of emotions in the air: happiness at being so close to the finish line, a bit of fear about what lies ahead, and a deep sense of anticipation for all the opportunities that their future will bring.
As I watched them arrive that morning, I couldn’t help but think of all the years that brought them to this point. Each project, exam, trip, friendship, and challenge has shaped them into who they are today. Now, as seniors, they stand at the edge of something new—one chapter closing and another just beginning. This is the beauty of the “first last day”: it reminds us of how far we’ve come, while hinting at all that is yet to come.
What made the day even more meaningful was the warm welcome they received from their class teacher, who will be walking beside them through every step of this final journey. Having such a dedicated guide and mentor by their side offers reassurance and strength, reminding them that they don’t have to face this important year alone. The teacher’s words and presence set the tone for a year that will be filled not only with hard work, but also with support, kindness, and encouragement.
This day will be remembered by our students not only as the beginning of the end of their high school journey, but also as a celebration of how much they’ve grown. We know that the road ahead will bring challenges, but we also know that these young people are ready to meet them with courage, resilience, and the confidence of everything they have already accomplished. To our Year 13s: this is your moment—enjoy it, cherish it, and make the most of every day.
