Reflections on the 20th Anniversary of the Bratislava Marathon
This past weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the Bratislava Marathon, an event that I had the privilege to participate in. Despite the weather not being in our favor, the experience was unforgettable.
Leading up to the marathon, I had high hopes for my training. Unfortunately, I was sidelined by illness for about three weeks, which meant I wasn’t in the top form I had envisioned. However, I decided to brave the cold and give it my best shot.
A student in my class recently shared a powerful insight: “If you try your best, it will be perfect.” This simple yet profound statement resonated with me as I set out for the race. While I only managed to complete the half marathon, I truly enjoyed the journey.
One of the highlights was spotting Nela, a Year 3 student, and her family along the trail. Their cheerful presence provided a significant boost to my spirits. As I made my way into the old town, I was greeted by my family and coworkers braving the freezing temperatures to cheer me on. It was a heartwarming reminder of the wonderful community I am part of.
Crossing the finish line was a relief, and I felt immense gratitude as I headed inside to savor a delicious meal with friends to wrap up a memorable day.
Participating in the Bratislava Marathon was more than just a physical challenge; it was a celebration of resilience, community, and the support of those around us. Here’s to many more marathons and the lessons we learn along the way!
